** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
       Status: Incomplete => New

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.27

I have several issues with power states under Intrepid. These issues did
not occur under Hardy. The only hardware change between Hardy and
Intrepid was the replacement of a failing hard drive.

Here are all the issues I experience. I suspect they are all related,
but that may not be the case.

  1) Shutting down the system does not power off the machine. I can hear
the hard drive spin down, and the screen displays "acpid: exiting". I
have to power off the system manually using the power button.

  2) Changing power states takes a long time. When I put the computer into
hibernation or suspend, it takes approximately one minute to power off,
most of that time appears to be with the computer doing nothing. The
actual writing of state to disk (for hibernation) takes about five
seconds. Powering off the machine results in a similar length wait.
About ten seconds before the system powers off, the power light flashes
  amber (it is normally green).

  3) Hibernate fails the second time. I can hibernate the system and
resume it successfully once, but upon the second attempt to resume, the
system freezes. Soon after the "Waking up, please wait..." message
appears (after reading state from disk), the computer appears to freeze.
Attempting to switch VTs results in minor screen corruption. The
computer requires a hard reboot (SysRq-B).

  3) Resume from suspend fails. After suspending the computer while in X,
resume fails. The screen remains blank and the backlight is off. The
computer does not respond to SysRq-B. Suspending via "sudo pm-suspend"
in a textmode VT results in a successful resume, so I suspect it may at
least partially be due to video card sleep quirks, which I had to fiddle
with to get resume to complete under Hardy.

  4) Lid button does not work. When I close the lid, the computer does not
attempt to suspend, even though I have set that action in the Power
  Management Preferences.

I am attaching the output of dmidecode, the contents of my /proc/acpi
directory, and the kernel.logs after a failed resume from hibernate.

If there is any other information needed to properly debug these issues,
I will be happy to comply.
