I've traced the trigger of the errors down to /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d
/powersave-policy-sata-link-power. This triggers the errors for me every
time on my laptop:

echo "max_performance" | sudo tee
/sys/class/scsi_host/host1/link_power_management_policy
