Hi,
I had the same issue with Ubuntu Karmic, the only solution for me is to back to the madwifi driver (using this version : http://snapshots.madwifi-project.org/madwifi-0.9.4-current.tar.gz ).

It seem to be fixed after upgrading to Lucid.
