First point is yes. Since thinkpad-acpi now links against alsa ..
you can't update lbm to 1.0.23 as it will look for symbols not there and
fail to load.
Your on track. Though that patch is actually built on another patch:

Doing this via SRU is best. I have been thinking about piecing
together a full patch and test it. Though havn't had a chance yet to do
it. But I want to get it done by this week .. if the kernel team would
accept in in a SRU.
