You have been subscribed to a public bug:
System freezes when I attempt to copy large files between 2 internal
ext4 formatted sata drives. I get the same freeze whether in gnome, a
root shell via the rescue boot option, or booting the server version.
This crash is repeatable; attempts to copy a large, say a 40 GB
directory from one drive to the other will crash the system. I booted
Knoppix 6.2.1 and I can successfully copy the files I was attempting in
Ubuntu, so clearly the problem resides in Ubuntu 10.4.
My system:
Ubuntu 10.4 AMD64 (2.6.32-22), Athlon II X4 cpu, 8 GB RAM, 2 Seagate 1TB
sata drives, ATI 5770 video, Gigabyte MA785-UD2H mb
I will provide more detailed system info when needed.
I have a screen shot of the stack trace when the crash occurs.
** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Incomplete
