Just to recap 
run failsafeX from the recovery tools (I had to append the i915.modeset=0 to the boot options)
download and install Jeffrey's debs.
Run:
sudo update-initramfs -c -k 2.6.32.11+drm33.2-x201
sudo update-grub
sudo reboot

Thanks Jeffrey Windows 7 was really bugging me. Will this patch be
pushed into release?
