Notes:  On unplugging the A/C ...

1. the system seems to be executing the "When the lid is closed"
behavior (Power Management prefs -> On Battery Power) even though the
lid is open.  Changing that option to "Blank Screen" changes the
behavior and makes the following acpi_listen testing feasible:

2. acpi_listen always sees the A/C state properly, and yields only this when the A/C is unplugged:
    ac_adapter AC 00000080 00000000
and this when it is plugged back in:
    ac_adapter AC 00000080 00000001

3. acpi_listen indicates that button/lid events are frequently missed
and always sluggish, especially so when A/C is plugged in.
