For me I made it worked.
I did as per this guy said in the post

What i Did was, enabled extra option in the "visual effects" from change desktop background.
then opened update-manager and checked for any updates. Then installed whatever came in that list.
Then reverted back from extra to normal, as i never liked these graphics things.

I tried suspend/resume and guess what?, it worked.
I havent tried the hibernate options as i deleted my swap partition. :)
