Luke,
I am running the same card on my desktop in VGA mode without any
issues, my issue is with the laptop which is running an Intel video
chipset.

Our issues are not related but I can offer my observations and
recommendations.

The issue with you not seeing the BIOS is most likely because the card
is switching modes to find the correct output at the same time that
the BIOS messaged should be displayed. You should still be able to
enter BIOS by hitting the proper key when it is switching the modes
afte you power it on.

The issue with you not seeing the bootloader is in response a
modification in your grub bootloader displaying on a resolution that
your card does not recognize on that port, I beleive that DVI relays
additional infromation and at that stage the system is unable to
retain sufficient information to load the requested video mode. If you
modify your grub configuration file to use the default resolution you
should be able to see the bootloader.
