I instead went with linux-backports-modules-wireless-lucid-generic-pae
and this seems to have had a good effect on my machine. My wireless has
worked very nicely since. Before upgrade it wouldn't even connect to my
home network sometimes.

@Dave: Why did you go with just that version, 2.6.32-22 is also
available (+the version I chose)?
