Binary package hint: plymouth

after aptitude full-upgrade from 8.0.4

if I boot with the monitor unplugged, deselected on my KVM switch, or
turned off, then the virtual consoles don't come up

/usr/bin/reset is unable to determine the type of the VCs and after a
while something happens that makes writes to them fail.

with the monitor connected I get this

[ 10.706513] [drm] set up 31M of stolen space
[ 10.827257] fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device
[ 10.827260] registered panic notifier

[ 10.992842] alloc irq_desc for 27 on node -1
[ 10.992845] alloc kstat_irqs on node -1

with it disconnected I get this:

while the intel video chip supports several connectors only one is
fitted on the motherboard.
