I have the same kernel panic lock ups on a ThinkPad T60p with Atheros 5
chipset.

Installing the linux-backports-modules-wireless seems to make the kernel
panics even more frequent.

Kernel: 2.6.31-22

@Brian: are you suggesting to revert to the 2.6.31-22 kernel?
