Binary package hint: acpi-support
I expected to see the brightness control actually work without error on
my Acer Aspire 5810TZ (Not sure if it matters), but instead I see it
wanting to work, but unable to. Brightness adjust on unplug from AC
power also fails, and when rebooting, looking at the terminal during
shutdown, I get "ACPI: failed to adjust brightness".
Not really sure where to go from here, except to file a bug report and
hope someone has something helpful and of use to my problem. Not sure
also if this applies to all Acer laptop models in the Aspire line, all
laptops or only my model.
I am using the current stable release of Ubuntu (10.10 "Maverick") and
the latest version of acpi-support as of this writing. And just like on
a similar report with an IMB thinkpad, brightness only changes when I
reboot. But a peculiar thing: Brightness adjust on unplug works before I
boot into Ubuntu; The problem only exists post-boot, which I find oddly
strange and annoying, since I would love to be able to just keep my
laptop on and not have to log back into everything in order to keep the
backlight low.
