I have seen several reports of varying success with the
xinput_callibration tool

To build the tool for Maverick:
1) Get, extract the tool source code from http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/xinput_calibrator:
wget http://github.com/downloads/tias/xinput_calibrator/xinput_calibrator-0.7.5.tar.gz
tar -xzvf xinput_calibrator-0.7.5.tar.gz

2) Install the necessary packages:
sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf libtool x11proto-input-dev xinput libxi-dev libgtkmm-2.4-dev

2) From the README
http://github.com/tias/xinput_calibrator/blob/v0.7.5/README

Run:
cd xinput_calibrator-0.7.5
./autogen.sh --with-gui=gtkmm
make
sudo make install

xinput --help will show all options.

xinput --list should list your device

Unfortunately only the first calibration point is accepted, as it seems
the mouse events are captured instead, and the cursor stays at the top
left.
