I've had very similar problems with my lenovo x61 Tablet running 10.04.
I've tried with 2.6.32.-21, 22, 23, and 25, and same event/0 or event/1
CPU spiking (and networks LEDs on the whole time since the "Starting Up"
message, right after choosing the kernel we want to use in grub.

I can only use wireless: Wired network doesn't work anymore and the
"Wired Networks " menu always displays "Disconnected" and is greyed out.

typing "sudo ip link set eth0 down" stops the CPU spikes as well.
