[Bug 629151] [NEW] CD/DVD Rom is listed in system > administration > disk utility, but won't play anything (neither music, dvd or data)

The CD/DVD Drive is listed in System > administration > Disc Utility, with name and type (Philips SPD6005T). I succesfully installed Ubuntu 10.04 from the drive, after downloading the iso image and performing the MD5 sum check and checking the disk for errors with the install tool.
The drive did work for a bit, about 30 seconds, then it froze while I was playing a CD. It hasn't worked since then. It is still listed in the hardware in the Disc Utility, but it won't play or open anything I put in it. There is no icon on the desktop when a CD is put in, nor does it show in the Disc Utility when a CD is in the drive.
I have a dual boot with Windows XP Pro, and there the drive works perfectly.

After consulting the Dutch Ubuntu forum, I was advised to file a bug
report.
