This problem happens for med to on 2.6.35 ubuntu flavored kernel.

if I install mainline from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v2.6.35.4-maverick/

it works fine so it's some ubuntu patch that is the problem.
