adding nomodeset to Ubuntu 10.04 Beta allows ubuntu to run successfully

Ubuntu version 9.04.9.10,10.04,10.10 beta all do this

Ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2.6.27.7 has no problem booting from disc but when
installed and run also requires nomodeset or else I get a blank screen


graphics card is ATI Radeon 8500DV

lspci gives it as vga compatible controller :ATI technologies R200 BB
[Radeon all in wonder 8500 DV]
