FYI.
With Toshiba Satellite pro 4600 all Ubuntu after 8.**** do not use CPU fan with resulting overheating & shut down problems.
This came to light after laptop was used full time when the screen size problem was resolved & full screen function restored.
(used ver 6.01 /etc/X11/xorg.conf)
