Same issue with the VT6421 on Samsung drives.

lspci: 02:0a.0 RAID bus controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6421 IDE RAID Controller (rev 50)
Drives are new 1.0 TB SAMSUNG HD103SJ 32M 7K drives.
