[Bug 640525] [NEW] [Maverick beta] [kernel] HD may freeze during system boot or resume

Public bug reported:

- This error didn't exist on same system using Lucid and previous Ubuntu
releases / kernels

- Although system is rather old, HD is rather new (less than 200 hours
runtime) and has perfect SMART values.

Symptoms:

* System will OFTEN hang when resuming from suspend and SOMETIMES when
cold-booting (Plymouth being displayed).

* When hanged, HD LED stays steadily lit, but HD isn't audibly
"scratching".

* When hanged during resume, it can be noticed that system isn't
completely "dead", keyboard still responding and allowing to shift from
a virtual console to another, but any attempt to access HD will
definitely freeze system.

* Once system succeeds booting or resuming without hanging, it then is
perfectly stable.
