Based on the above, i'm suspecting that a patch that was just added to
the Maverick kernel will fix this:

It's in kernel 2.6.35-22.33 which just finished publishing late last
night.  Can you please do your updates again, and make sure this is the
kernel you have and see if the problem is fixed?
