My naive understanding is that this is not a duplicate of bug #609932.
The relevant parts of my dpkg terminal log are:

Running depmod.

lzma: Encoder error: -2147467259
Failed to create initrd image.
dpkg: error processing linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic (--configure):

status 2
Note the lzma encoder error.
