I just installed ubuntu 10.10-beta and have a Linksys WUSB54GC wireless
USB adapter (rt2870). I am having a lot of trouble establishing a
connection and keeping it. When it does connect, I get disconnected as
soon as I try to use it. Also I will lose the connection after a short
while if not immediately trying to browse the web. A peek at dmesg
sometimes shows my AP not responding to a probe request and immediately
deauthorizing me. I think (hope!) this may be because of the distance to
my AP and the adapter not using full Tx power (12dBm, 15mW) as opposed
to 27dBm as reported in PuppyLinux which works just fine. So does Win XP
with the same hardware. iwconfig won't let me change the txpower on the
fly - says operation not permitted. How can I change this? Is there a
config file somewhere I can edit to make a specific txpower level or
"auto" permanent?
