** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete
** Description changed:
Hi folks,
A few bugs have been reported recently, which appear to have the same
root cause. I'm trying to nail it down, but since I can't reproduce it
here, I'm going to need your help.
The symptoms are:
* Running Ubuntu Lucid
* Sound broken after an update somewhere around 12 - 20 aug 2010
* When running "aplay -l", you get the result "No soundcards found"
- * When running "ls /dev/snd", you get proper results (one or more files beginning with "controlC" and "pcm").
-
- The current theory is that it is a permission related error.
+ * When running "ls /dev/snd", you get proper results (one or more files beginning with "controlC" and "pcm").
+ * Adding the user to the audio group resolves the error, however, sound should work for a logged in user even if he is not in the audio group.
+ * The problem comes and goes, making it difficult to nail it down.
