Because Tim/Kyle are coordinating the upload this time.

You are right. Perhaps this was mainly discussed on #ubuntu-mobile,
verbally and on email, rather than on #ubuntu-kernel, for which I
apologize. Let me fix that now:

Because of the late start + different time schedule for UME, some of
the relevant patches from Intel/vendors/upstream are still WIP.
Notable among them are the new MMC stack (upstream support for MMC,
SD, SDIO) and ACPI thermal optimization patches from Intel.

It is desirable to apply these patches (in the future) to allow UME
developers to shake out the bugs. However, it is not desirable to
expose Gutsy users to them since this will will be alpha-code at best.
Making UME a custom build, allows us to apply these patches w/o
breaking Gutsy.

As far as modifying the custom build to accept a patch directory
instead of a single diff, I think that the single diff was very
inadequate for UME needs. Allowing a patch directory will allow more
flexibility.

Hopefully, I have addressed your questions.

Regards,
Amit
