Hello all,
I am sending this to kernel mailing list as I suspect blacklisting kernel
modules (in module-init-tools) is something that Kernel developers would
approve.
I have prepared debdiff [1] to module-init-tools that blacklists garmin_gps
module. This module provides USB -> serial gateway that was used by many GPS
applications (including gpsbabel) to access Garmin GPS devices with USB
interface. Since in last years more or less all Garmin devices come with USB
connectivity, most of the GPS apps have added proper support for native
Garmin USB protocol, therefore not needing garmin_gps device. Actually,
garmin_gps prevent such applications to access the USB device at all.
Please consider this patch for inclusion into Ubuntu Hardy - it will greatly
improve out-of-the-box experience of Garmin GPS users.
Regards,
Luka
