Hi,
====QUESTION:
is there a Ubuntu patched kernel 2.6.24 for Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) available?
Perhaps a backport from Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy)?
====PROBLEM:
The NIC (SiS191) on the laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo V5535) does not work
[1][2]. After some searching I found that the reason for this is a kernel "bug"
[3][4]. There is a patch for the 2.6.24-rc3 kernel available [4] which seems
to work for Fujitsu Esprimo laptops.
In the Ubuntu Gutsy package database I only found the sources for the 2.6.22-14-generic
kernel and not the 2.6.24 kernel :-( .
I already tried to:
- apply the 2.6.24 kernel patch [4] against the Ubuntu 2.6.22-14 kernel
- apply the 2.6.24 kernel patch [4] against the 2.6.24 kernel and copy the resulting
sis190.c file to the Ubuntu 2.6.22-14 kernel source
In both cases the recompiling of the kernel module sis190.ko failed because the source code
seems to have changed too much from 2.6.22 to 2.6.24.
Is there a Ubuntu patched kernel 2.6.24 for Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) available?
Thanks
Emal
