lm-sensors in, hal-addons out?

Hello Kernel Team,

Where is Ubuntu heading with hardware sensors?

As far as I can tell, the hwmon and lm-sensors efforts are newer than
many of the specialized addons found in hal, and it seems the existing
solutions sometimes are in direct conflict with each other. My immediate
concern is with applesmc and the hald-addon-macbookpro-backlight package,
but my question is generally whether there is a declared wish to migrate
code towards the usage of libsensors.

Any pointer or comment is greatly appreciated.
