No Tux in ubuntu-kernel?

Hi, I'm using Ubuntu hardy. 
I just would to ask, how to display tux while booting, like knoppix does.
Hiding the usplash does not make it works.
I was try to compile a kernel from source, it boot but tux logo was not appear, and sound and wireless does not work. 
any link? may be someone has build a custom kernel deb package with a tux logo?
