I started working on this over the weekend, but due changes with how 
l-r-m is built for both 8.10 and 9.04, wasn't able to cleanly pull the 
patches for 8.04 forward.

[ Tim / Stefan, I'll still do this if one of you could help with setting 
up the patch mechanism for the intrepid/jaunty l-r-m git trees. 
Otherwise, if omne of you wants to take it, that's fine with me too. ]
