gits not working via http

Tried:

git clone http://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/linux.git linux-3.13.y
and got:
Cloning into 'linux-3.13.y'...
fatal: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/linux.git/info/refs not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server?

Using the web interface at 
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/linux.git

times out.
