Hi Luis - we've pretty much gotten away from partial backports in favour
of backporting whole kernels into our LTS releases. For example, 14.04
(Trusty) has what we are calling Hardware Enablement kernels (HWE),
i.e., kernels from subsequent interim, non-LTS releases that have been
repackaged and compiled using the LTS toolchain. We encourage OEMs to
use these HWE kernels in order to gain hardware enablement for platforms
that do not work with the LTS release kernel.
