Canonical Hardware Enablement Team / Ubuntu Kernel Team,
Dear Ubuntu Team,
I’m writing to share my experience and request support regarding hardware compatibility on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
I’m currently running Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (GNOME) on a laptop with the following configuration:
*
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7520U with integrated Radeon 610M graphics
*
Wireless Chipset: MediaTek MT7921E (Wi-Fi + Bluetooth)
*
RAM: 16 GB
*
Storage: 512 GB SSD
While the system works well overall, I’ve experienced ongoing issues with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Specifically:
*
Bluetooth does not remain active after reboot.
*
Wi-Fi occasionally disconnects or behaves unreliably.
*
Bluetooth pairing and functionality is inconsistent without applying DKMS modules or workarounds.
*
Kernel upgrades seem to fix some issues, but not all users are comfortable using custom builds or third-party patches.
I’m aware that these issues are known in the Ubuntu and Linux community, particularly for MediaTek chipsets. However, I would like to ask if better out-of-the-box support is being planned for this hardware—especially in terms of stable MediaTek wireless drivers, Bluetooth persistence after reboot, and general system integration for newer Ryzen+MediaTek laptops.
Is there any upcoming certified image or HWE kernel release that addresses these hardware compatibility gaps? Alternatively, could you provide official documentation or timelines for full support?
Thank you for the amazing work you do. Ubuntu is my daily driver and I appreciate your commitment to making Linux more accessible across hardware platforms.
Warm regards,
Omkar Bamanekar
