OK this seems to be 2 seperate issues, the crash and the problem with avatars. 
 
I have a fairly good idea what's causing the crash. 
 
I have myself added to my contact list. When Kopete closes it seem to iterate through the contact list and delete all the   
entries, then it does "delete d->myself". Would the initial iteration through the contact list have left that as a NULL   
pointer? 
 
Kopete itself doesn't let you add yourself to your contact list, but some other clients do. 
 
If somebody could try adding themselves to their contact list (with Gaim for example) and then checking to see if Kopete 
crashes when you close it, I'd appreciate it.
