This was a new install of kubuntu 5.04 final.

ralph at unkitty:~$ groups
ralph adm dialout cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev lpadmin scanner admin
ralph at unkitty:~$ ls -l /dev/fd0
brw-rw----  1 root floppy 2, 0 2005-04-08 14:32 /dev/fd0
ralph at unkitty:~$

See attachment. 

Additional comments at one time working with a dos formatted floppy it
complained about mtools not being install. Also changing the floppy size to Auto
produces a unexpected density number 0 error.
