It almost definitely is, because gdm which I installed to test this doesn't show 
the problem. 
 
I have also tested gimp in the problematic situation (to use something not Qt). It 
has the problem too. In an interesting way. It renders images perfect, only at some 
colors values, it is completely wrong. 
 
When I use the color select, I see lines of red in bluish colors. It would appear 
that this there might be a hardware issue perhaps? But then again, it works fine 
with gdm...
