Summary: System hangs after entering desktop
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: kubuntu-desktop
AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: dbzero at gmail.com
QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
This problem appears when using Kubuntu 5.10 (I haven't checked any previous
versions) and persists both on the Install and LiveCD versions. As soon as the
system finished booting and I'm left at the KDE desktop, as soon as I try to use
the menu to open an application, the menu is strangely colored and/or broken and
after a few second the system halts. I cannot move the mouse, cannot go into a
terminal console by ctrl-alt-1 or do anything at all. The only thing I can do is
reboot manually.
Because of the discoloration it might be a display problem (although I've never
bumped into such a problem before) so I'll say here that I have a GeForce 6600
AGP video card.
Ubuntu LiveCD did not hang.
