OK, Guidance appears to work (I loaded up the display module, went into admin mode, made some changes, applied, no errors or other visible signs of problems).

But Adept still complains that it can't open the APT database. The dialogue title reads "Could not open cache - Adept Manager" and the contents is:

"The APT Database could not be opened! This may be caused by incorrect APT configuration or some similar problem. Try running apt-setup and apt-get update in terminal and see if it helps to resolve the problem"

I've had no problems with apt from the shell.
