[Bug 77305] (Edgy) kdm takes a significantly long time to start

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase

kdm on Edgy takes at least 20 - 25 seconds to start up on it's own which
significantly more than the time taken by gdm or xdm ie ~5secs.

Also it seems that switching from usplash to vt1 and then to vt7 speeds
up the launch of kdm and it immediately starts after this procedure.

Things I have checked/done:

1. My hostname and /etc/hosts is all fine.

2. Font paths were incorrect in Edgy xorg.conf and I have fixed them up.

3. I don't have too many fonts, nevertheless I ran fc-cache -f to
rebuild the font cache.
