appendix: 
If I start scilab from the console, then the following message appears: 
 
ro at linux2:~$ scilab 
/usr/bin/scilab: line 31: /usr/lib/pvm3//lib/pvmgetarch: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden 
ro at linux2:~$ 
 
Message in English: file or directory not found 
 
Maybe the font error depends on it.
