Thank you for that very useful effort from your part.  I've seen screenshots, but never videos :)

Your mime-types/protocol handlers/association are broken somewhere.  I'll need to experiment a bit to see if I can reproduce your broken setup.  I don't think this is a bug in Ubuntu or Konqueror, but we need to know how your configuration got broken.
