This settings works fine with an i386 on Dapper when it comes to KDM : I get the list of available kernels to boot on when I choose to reboot, but then grub doesn't boot on the kernel I've chosen. -- Proposal: Set the bootmanager option in KDM by default to Grub https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/29684
