I had this bug with Amarok 1.4 on Dapper fully updated as of 2006-05-19.
I resolved the bug and got my collection functioning again by navigating
to the ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok directory and deleting these files:

collection.db
collection_scan.files
collection_scan.log
(and a number of other log files)

After that, Amarok was able to rebuild my collection correctly and load
it into the collection sidebar.  Maybe it was a database corruption or
something?  I'm using SQLite.
