Do you happen to have an IRC log or forum posting of the developer
fixing the bug with that specific patch?

The problem is the choice between installing a CVS version of xine or
waiting for the next release.  It's not my decision of what gets in or
not, but if this update doesn't bring any new bugs with it, it would
certainly benefit those trying to play *.shn files!
