I also have trouble with this :(

Kubuntu-desktop woudn't install and I figure uot that the trouble was in
libpoppler1. Then I run: sudo apt-get install libpoppler1=0.5.1-0ubuntu7

An it wanted to remove ubuntu-desktop!!! So I pressed ctrl+c a lot times
and run: sudo dpkg --configure -a. Now I tried to install ubuntu-
desktop. Now it depends on evince, that depends on libpoppler1 (version
0.5.1-0ubuntu7), it still has 0.5.3-0ubuntu2.

Should I just install 0.5.1-0ubuntu7 and let it remove ubuntu-desktop,
and install it after?
