[Bug 102718] Kubuntu7.04 Installation Error Step 5 of 7

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

I'm a Linux newbie; I'm trying to install the Kubuntu 7.04 beta.

Running the "Live CD" works well. Installation appears to go OK until
installation Step 5 of 7.

This is the "Who are you" step, which prompts me for a name, username,
password and computer name. I've entered all of that, but when I click
"Continue", I seem to get a tiny fragment of an error message, and can't
go to the next step.

Above and to the right of the "Choose a password" field, there's a
message, which is "Th" and the first half of an "e", as if the word
"The" was cut off mid-letter. Clearly, it is trying to tell me
something about "The password ..."

Isn't long enough? Doesn't match? Isn't complicated enough? It's tough
to know. I've tried several times, with very simple passwords that EVEN
_I_ could not have mis-typed (and I'm a pretty bad typist) to things so
complex that I couldn't possibly remember them without writing them on a
stickynote on the back of my keyboard (which defeats the whole purpose
of a password).

This has been a continuing problem; the exact same issue has occurred
since late January, when I first started trying to install Linux.

My motherboard, the Intel DG965WH, is apparently so new that previous
versions of Linux couldn't read from the optical drives; that's why
somebody who can hardly SPELL "Linux" is trying to install it.
