FWIW I wonder if there is a more general problem with KDE apps going
into the Gnome system tray, as I have had issues for months now on
Edgy/Gnome 2.16.1 with Konversation putting it's icon into the Gnome
tray.  Sometimes I get it, sometimes no icon with a blank spot, and
sometimes as an icon in the upper left of the desktop (and my tray is at
the bottom)  It seems to depend on which *other* apps are
maximized/minimized, or more likely the width of their task bar
buttons/labels (i.e. not in the tray, but next to it on the left).

I have not tested Feisty/Gnome 2.18
