The kuubntu-desktop package is just a metapackage that lists all the
packages that are considered part of the Kubuntu Desktop. Removing it
has no ill effects (generally you want it so when new packages get
added, they get installed automatically).
What I would do in a situation like yours is let is automatically remove
what it wants to remove and then without logging out or rebooting re-
install kubuntu-desktop. I suspect it's some kind of dkpg cache issue
that will go away if you let it do what it wants and then put it back.
I once had to re-install all of kdebase because of such an issue.
