Well I changed the Samba mount to NFS as suggested by someone at IRC. Still no luck. 
Got a crash report this time so I will attach that. 
Just a reminder that the exact same collection works great on FC6 with Amarok 1.4.4 where the collection is local but crashes with Ubuntu 6.10 while collection scanning via NFS mount.
